About Evie Group

Evie Group is a multidisciplinary design studio located in Sydney’s Balmain East. Co-founded in 2010 by industrial designers Alex Gilmour and Dominic Chong, the duo has evolved Evie Group into a growing design consultancy offering product and graphic design services and showroom retailing their design collection, Evie. Alex and Dominic met while studying industrial design at UTS. The formation of Evie Group began as a hands on collaboration of the two designers looking to make their own products. The first homewares range caught the attention of Marc Newson and awarded Alex the Qantas SOYA product design in 2010, coupled with an internship in his London studio. Since then, the Evie product collection in continually growing and includes a range of accessories, furniture and their award winning lighting range Spun which features as an innovative product in the Shanghai Museum of Glass’ permanent collection.

Our design approach goes hand in hand with our signature style of sophisticated simplicity, to create high quality products for everyday use. All designs are carefully considered using materials fit for purpose to ensure users enjoy and hold onto our pieces for years to come.


Dominic Chong

B.Design Industrial Design, Honours
B.Eng Manufacturing

Originating from Singapore, Dominic moved to Australia to pursue his studies in Industrial Design. This was closely followed by a Masters in Furniture Design at UTS. Both degrees were complimenting to his background in Manufacturing Engineering. His signature chair, Silhouette, has been featured in several exhibitions Australia-wide, including Vivid, Sydney International Furniture Fair, New Design at Object Gallery and a personal critique session with Giulio Cappellini himself.

Prior to co-founding Evie Group, Dominic built up his industry experience working in a product design consultancy. Following that, he worked through the corporate and event world as a graphic designer, PowerPoint guru and creative art director.

Alex Gilmour

B.Design Industrial Design, Honours

Alex completed a bachelor in Industrial Design, followed by a Masters in Design at UTS. The postgraduate work was undertaken as a research thesis in which she was awarded funding for the development of her patented and trademarked steam dishwashing concept; ‘Swash’. The design was featured in various design awards including winning the Powerhouse Museum Wizard Award for Innovation in Design and finalist status in Dyson and DuPont Innovation awards.

Prior to co-founding Evie Group she worked extensively in production management and offshore manufacturing, freelanced as a graphic designer and tutored Industrial Design students at UTS. The startup of Evie Group saw her design the first Evie collection, which caught the attention of Marc Newson. Alex's designs won the Qantas SOYA 2010 Industrial and Object Design award coupled with an invaluable internship with Marc Newson in his London studio.
